Dr. Robert D. “Bob” Hunter Leaves Behind a Legacy

On February 11, an incredible leader in the higher education system passed away. Dr. Robert D. “Bob” Hunter leaves behind the legacy of many accomplishments that have impacted the Abilene community, the state of Texas, and Texas Independent Higher Education, including the Tuition Equalization Grant (TEG), continuing to impact Texas Independent Higher Education. Dr. Hunter developed the TEG program to serve eligible students with financial needs enrolled at private non-profit Texas colleges or universities. Thanks to Dr. Hunter’s efforts, the program has awarded more than 1 million individual grants totaling more than $2.6 billion. With the blessings provided by this program, Hardin-Simmons University is grateful for Dr. Hunter’s serving heart and dedication to Independent Higher Education. May he rest in heavenly peace.
